Riki Kiswani(18),3rd of 5 sibling,is a young climber who can be categorized as one of Indonesian’s top junior climber. He was introduced to climbing by his friend Riko in 2005. He is very enthusiastic about becoming the climber in indonesia. Everydat after school he practices his climbing. With a strong will and only with 4 months training,he came 4th in National Junior Category.
Representing DKI Jakarta as a junior athlete,in 2 years he was recruited to became a professional athlete to represent Jakarta in 14th PON next year in East Kalimanatan. In June 2007,he got 1st place in National Junior Category in the KOPASSUS’s Championship, and automatically got the chance to participate in Asian Indoor Championship in Macau (November 2007). During the entirety of Ramadhan he still practiced with his trainer in Jakarta.
His participation in this event(in Macau) was sponsored by KONI (Indonesian National Committee of Sport) and coordinated by FPTI centre (indonesian Federation of Climbing). According to FPTI centre, all athlete would not received their pocket money since it was going to be used for other athlete’s registration in Asian Championship in China which was held on the same month as the Cahmpionship in Macau. It seemed unfair for FPTI centre to took this deccission without discussing it with the athletes regarding their pocket money which worth USD 520.
Riki mentioned, this circumstances brought negative impact to his performance,he only secured 25th place. Before the championship started,he had to signed the receipt for the money he never received himself. According to him, looked like there was discrimination to junior climbers and the official didn’t do their job as they should. This unfairness also happened to other athletes who participated in the Asian Championship in China.
For those who won,30% of their price would be deducted. There was an gentle agrrement between them before the event, the athletes agreed with it since they would get the chance to participated in an International Championship overseas. For those events,FPTI (centre) only provided 3days official training. Is this how FPTI (centre) works professionally? Luckily,FPTI pengda DKI Jakarta support Riki and also provided him with some fund. Based on what had happened, what is your opinion about FPTI (centre) in nurturing and supporting all athletes to International Stage???

Riki…(and every other climbers who’s passionate about it)
I’d like to recomend you to read “rock warrior’s way” by arno ilgner. It’s a mental training for climbers, short of meditative approach into it.Guarantee it will upgrade your climbing skill but at the same time it will “keep your feet on the ground”.it wouldn’t teach you how to climb but “how to set your mind correctly while you climb”
This is one of the book that Chris Sharma always have in his backpack while he’s on climbing trip (and I heard that the other one is The power of now by Eckhart Tolle)
Not sure if you can find it in Indo but I’m sure you can get it from amazon.
GOOD LUCK!!

ps:
waktu competition di Macau, ketemu sama Indian climber yg namanya Prasan nggak? he’s my training partner di darjeeling!!
Sorry to hear that you were not being supported by the official people in JKT.But don’t let it affect your climbing performance. The love of climbing should come from your internal motivation. The external factor is just “the tip of the iceberg” Who knows, if you keep on improving your performance, maybe 5.10, PETZL or any other climbing product will look at you !!
Then…you can say: “KONI who????”
Best of luck!
